Opening Kaleidoscope Lewisham Centre for Children & Young
People 2 November 2007
Stephen has been commissioned to draw the Kaleidoscope Centre in Lewisham for
Children & Young People.
Kaleidoscope is the first centre of its kind in England to provide a
comprehensive range of integrated services for children and young people. These
services cover everything from physiotherapy to child protection.
Another
advantage of having specialists under the same roof is that it's easier to
organise reviews to plan for the children in their care. Families and young
people were involved in the design and development in the new centre, which has
been called an example of excellence in design and process by the Commission
for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE).
It took 10 years to plan and 18 months to build at a cost of £13.5m. Funding
came from a variety of sources, including Lewisham Council and South London and
Maudsley NHS Trust.
Altogether there will be more than 250 professionals, together with their
support teams, based in the new centre.
Dr Tony O'Sullivan, Consultant
Paediatrician at Lewisham Primary Care Trust says: "Kaleidoscope is a wonderful
opportunity for us to create the service Lewisham children and their families
deserve. All our individual skills and professions combine to deliver a truly
excellent service, which helps children to realise their potential."
The Centre was formally opened by Stephen and Lewisham Children on Friday 2nd of
November 2007.
